The Bakwena N1/N4 toll route, also known as the Bakwena Platinum Corridor Concessionaire, holds a significant place in South Africa’s transportation landscape. Awarded in 1999 to a consortium comprising both local and international infrastructure companies, this concession marked the beginning of a major infrastructure development endeavour. By 2004, the initial sections of the route were officially opened, representing a substantial leap in connectivity between Pretoria, Johannesburg, and neighbouring Botswana. To sustain ongoing maintenance and upgrades, a tolling system was introduced, providing essential funding for the route’s operation and expansion.

Over the years, the Bakwena route has seen continuous improvements, including adding lanes, interchanges, bridges, and safety features. Community engagement and development initiatives have also played a pivotal role, contributing to education, healthcare, and infrastructure projects in the communities along the corridor.

  Appointed as Consultant responsible for Environmental Project Management of the Operational and Maintenance phase for the Concessionaire. Trans African Concessions (Pty) Ltd.
• Expansion of the Bakwena N4 Toll Highway between Brits and Marikana, North West
  Appointed as Consultant to undertake the Basic Assessment required for expansion of the N4 from a single to duel carriage way. – South African National Roads Agency (Pty) Ltd.
• Expansion of the N1 Toll Highway (Proefplaas to Pumelani), Gauteng
  Appointed as Independent Environmental Consultant to undertake an Environmental Impact
  Assessment Process as well the development of an Environmental Management Plan –
  Bakwena Concessions (Pty) Ltd.
• Upgrading of the N4 Platinum Toll Highway, North West Province
  Appointed as Independent Environmental Consultant to undertake an Environmental Impact
  Assessment Process as well the development of an Environmental Management Plan –
